One of the things I love about baby signs

I love how it helps my babies communicate younger, and how it leads to less stress, and how it helps them make new brain connections and sharpen motor skills.

But moments like the one I just had make it so special. My sweet 9 month old boy. I was nursing him. These days he just wants to be mobile, and breastfeeding isn't always such a sweet tender experience anymore. It's often full of him struggling to crawl away, then coming back for a quick couple of gulps before escaping again. He rolls away and pulls himself up to stand, all while latched on. Which isn't comfortable! He's hyper and keen to keep moving.

But he had one of those rare moments where he was sleepy and was taking his milk quite seriously. He was gazing up at me with grateful eyes while he guzzled away, and I beamed back down at him. Then, without breaking eye contact, he took his chubby little hand and started to open and close it, to sign for milk. Usually he does this sign when he is asking for milk. But this time I took it to mean, "Thank you for this milk mum. It's delicious".

Signing milk

Turtle can do the milk sign. He signs milk when he's nursing, when he wants to nurse, and when he just wants a drink of water (hasn't quite figured out the difference yet). Here he is signing milk for a drink of water (remember he has half Rene's genes)

I don't know what the weird breath holding thing was all about. That was the only time he's done that. He was just being silly I guess.

Signing in sentences

Sorry I haven't posted mush recently. Our Internet went out for a few days, then we were busy Christmas shopping past few days. Kaya and Lana are so fed up being dragged along to stores. They've started just sitting on the ground in protest in stores and refusing to move. I feel rather like doing the same....

Zoe is signing in little mini sentences recently.
She has done:
"bath - all done" when getting dried afterwards
"bye bye water" when the bath was draining
and "more eat" in her high chair.

She's so clever! I love her.

Here's a vid of Zoe being cute in a cat hat.

All done sign

Here's Zoe signing "all done".
You can also catch her signing "mummy" a wee little bit in there.

Baby Signs

Here's Zoe doing the diaper change sign.
At 7 1/2 months she can also do the milk sign, bath sign and all done. She recognises a whole bunch of other signs too, but hasn't figured out how to sign them all yet.
