Kaya's sleepy song

Sorry I haven't been posting much. I'm in a slump without my camera. There's hope for that though, we're hopefully getting it fixed soon.

Here's Kaya singing a sleepy song.

Stuff I Miss About Scotland - Part 1

Welcome to SIMAS (stuff I miss about Scotland) part 1.
Mostly I miss certain foods (well, mostly people but I'm not including people).

These will not be in any particular order of missability. I'll just be posting stuff whenever it comes to mind.

So part 1 of SIMAS is Muller yogurt.
I loved the variety as pictured above, with the vanilla yogurt and the little milk and white choc balls. I also loved the rum and raisin (they stopped making that tho didn't they?) and the strawberry, and the peach, and the banana with choc flakes. Mmmm I loved the muller rice too. Especially warmed up.
I don't care for the yogurt over here as much. (But the weather's much better!)

Cloverfield

I went to see it on Saturday with my brother.

I'm not going to give anything away about it. All I'll say is, I loved it! It rocked. Nice adrenaline rush for the day. Going to IHOP afterwards sure felt mundane and unimportant after the journey the movie took me through. (but the pankcakes were still yummy, and all you can eat for $4.99, you can't go wrong)

Rene's going to want to go see it this week. Anyone want to go with him? He'll prob go with a buddy from work or something.

Last photos

Here are the photos I was in the middle of taking when my camera decided to break a week ago. Sigh. I still haven't sent it off for repair. Hopefully this week.

Hair Cut

With lana's hair falling out from twisting, it was looking so think and straggly. We got it cut at cost cutters same time Kaya had hers cut, but I swear they just waved the scissors in her general vicinity then charged us $10 for it.

So we took her to a local place today, and they've given her a really short cut. It is sad to see it like a boy's hairstyle, but I really think it's the best cut for her. Should discourage the twisting, looks cute, and it looks less straggly and slightly fuller. It should look even fuller after a good wash and dry.

She was very good about it, seems to love it and especially loved the lolly pop.

Rene got his cut too, still long enough for a pony tail, just a few inches chopped off to make it shorter and neater.

A year ago today

A year ago today, we were packing up our things and saying our last goodbyes to our family and friends in Scotland. it's all like a blur to me, we were so busy in those last days. We wouldn't have survived without all the awesome support everyone gave us.

It was really crazy, we didn't even sleep that night. We went from packing and running around getting last minute things done, to suddenly realising it was 2.30 am and the taxi cab was there to take us to the airport! We didn't have time to get sentimental and look around the house and think of all we were leaving.

I sure do feel homesick sometimes. I especially miss my wee family. I have tons of family here now, which is awesome. But I can't replace my mum or my wee brother. They're super special to me and it's hard being so far away from them.

But we've been so blessed here, the year has gone great. We had Zoe, she's grown well. We've lived in Maine, got to have some good times with my dad and step mom, and now we're loving Nebraska. Made great friends, Doug came to live near us. Seen 4 beautiful seasons. It's been a great year, but a super fast one. I can't believe it's been a year.

I hope to get to go home to Scotland for a visit in the near future. We're trying to save, it's just so expensive. Anyone from home reading this, I sure miss you all. And I'm so thankful for all the support in those days when we were leaving.

Imagination

I love the way Lana thinks. She makes every day tasks so much fun.

Bugs, wigs and camera woes

Ok bugs first - I just want to whine a little. We've been passing around a darn tummy bug since Christmas. I'm so tired of it now. As soon as one person's over it, someone else starts puking. I've gone round the house and scrubbed everything as clean as I could. But we still can't seem to get rid of it.

We're not super ill with it, no fever etc, but it's very annoying, and nasty. I haven't been able to get to church since before Christmas, in fact I haven't really been anywhere recently. Stuck in the house, with sick kids, surrounded by puke and poop. I thought we were better last Friday and I took the kids to the museum. All seemed well but then Sat night Lana got ill again. I wonder if we picked it back up from the museum.

Anyway, that's enough moaning about that.

WIGS -- My other post about Lana twisting her hair and getting bald has disappeared. Long story short, she has a habbit of twisting it for comfort and is getting very bald. We've tried umpteen things to get her to stop. The latest is a wig, which so far she loves and is twisting it instead! fingers crossed...

CAMERA WOES - - Ok ready for some more moaning?

My digital rebel has stopped autofocussing. It just stopped in the middle of me taking photos on Friday. My eyesight is so bad, I can't see properly to manual focus. Those pics of Lana took forever for me to get right today. I just have to guess and hope for the best, so only about 1 out of 20 pics is working out.

I found out this is the likely problem. I'm going to have to send it off for repair which will cost $140. The camera is hardly even worth that anymore. But I can't survive without it! I feel like I'm mourning the death of a loved one. Sigh.

So not a hugely positive blog post today, but Lana's cute in her wig :)

Fashion Conscious

I can't believe this has started already, at 5 years old!

We were getting ready to head out to the kids museum to play for the afternoon today, when kaya came and asked me to help her choose some clothes. Recently she's been chosing her own. She said "I want some clothes that look good, so I'll look like the other children there, and they'll like me and want to play with me".

She told me sometime the kids there won't play with her, and she thinks it might be because her clothes aren't as good :(

Breaks my heart. Of course we had a talk about how she shouldn't compromise herself just to make others happy, and the most important thing is that she's confident in herself and knows she's a good person. If other people don't want to play with her, that's their loss, and clothes are superficial. I know it's all lost on her just now though. And the whole thing seems sad.

Anyway she of course had a great time at the museum, was her usual extrovert, social self and made loads of friends. Had kids running around after her like crazy.
I sure am getting glimpses of the teenage years.

Making Flowers

Kaya got a flower making kit for Christmas. We had a go today. It was fun.

Zoe played under the table and grabbed at any pieces of material that were dropped. (and yes, she's wearing the same onesie as yesterday! I figure if it's still clean might as well save laundry - am I a terrible person?)

And here's the final product :)

Zoe high five

She didn't want to co-operate this time. She's teething like mad, working on 4 at once at the top. (I've had hardly any sleep since friday night). Poor baby. She just wants to eat her hands.

Peekaboo

Zoe was playing peekaboo with Kaya. They were cute, I had to snap some pics.

Shirtless Kaya with pen on her face.

Kaya the photographer

Kaya got a wee photo album in her stocking and wanted to fill it. So she did a photoshoot. She was great. She took all the photos. She didn't want me to edit them, just crop a couple according to her instruction. So these are pure, and all Kaya's. Here are some highlights.

Interview with a 5 year old

Kaya the ham wanted an interview too.

An interview with a 3 year old

I took this a few days ago while Kaya and her daddy were out at the store and I had some Lana mummy time.

Zoe showing off

From earlier today. She's a noisy girl.

It's hard to hear it here, but she says "uzat" for "what's that"

ER visit tonight

We were just getting supper ready when Lana started screaming. Turns out Kaya decided to drag her along the floor and popped Lana's elbow out of place. Nursemaid's elbow. She's had it happen once before.

After receiving instructions over the phont I attempted to pop it in place myself, but she was in so much pain, I couldn't stand it, and I was scared I was going to do more damage.

So we made a make-shift sling out of tights and put her arm up and took her to ER.

Once the Dr came through he only took a minute or so to pop it back and she seems much better now. Now we just need to pay for it. Ugh. We'll finally have our deductable paid off in time for the new policy to kick in. Annoying. I'm glad she feels better though.

Kaya feels very guilty. She's pampering Lana to try to make up for it.

Oops, Christmas

'Cause we've been ill, I forgot to post anything about Christmas.

We had a great day. Thanks to the friends and Grandparents who sent presents! All very nice. The kids were spoiled as usual.

Uncle Doug spent the night here Christmas Eve, which was fun. He stayed for the meal and our friends Eric and Stacy came too, with their kiddos. And they brought yummy food including the turkey, which was great to n ot have to make! I made a bunch of stuff too, much of which is still in containers in the fridge.

Then Doug stayed later too and we played a buffy board game together. Loads of fun.

Happy New Ears!

Kaya came to me this morning throwing her arms around my neck and exclaiming "Happy New Ears!!" I couldn't help but laugh.

We unfortunately had to cancel our New Year's Eve plans and stay home puking and running to the bathroom instead. We unfortunately have this bad tummy bug, which is just never going away. So we're spending today changing spewed on bed sheets and cleaning up messes. Not much fun. I just hope this gets out of our systems soon. It's never ending.
