I heart faces - hats

This week's theme at I heart faces (go check it out) is HATS. I wanted to take some nice pics of my girls in their hats yesterday, but I totally left my CF card at home. So I was still lugging my whole camera case around, with all my lenses, but couldn't take any pics. Ugh

So I looked through some oldies. And smiled when I came across this one

We were in Scotland. Kaya (the hatted one) was about 3 years old. We were visiting our friends who had a gorgeous house right on the coast. I mean, right there. They were about 400 yards from the actual ocean. It was a nice, rocky beach. SO picture-esque. We kept meaning to get together with them again and spend more time. But never did get round to it....Anyway they're a great family, and Kaya had loads of fun with their little girl. It was a fun day, and I'm glad I took pics.

OK. Spill it. How did you get that "unfocused edges" look? I played around for like a half hour trying to get that look and kept ending up with these sharp edges between the blurred/unblurred parts... If you look at my shot for this week, you can see all the distracting houses and traffic in the background... I wanted to blur all that and have just his face focused...

Oh yeah. Forgot to say I love the shot :) As usual :) :) I'd say this one has a great shot at winning.

Amazing. I LOVE it. The colouring is incredible and the soft focusing is very cool.

The oldy is a goody! :) I've had moment like that where I've been all set to have a great setting for shooting and...darn! No card! It is so frustrating!

I have looked at many sites on this subject and not come across a site such as yours which tells everyone everything that they need to know. I have bookmarked your site. Can anyone else suggest any other related topics that I can look for to find out further information?
